Good practices
We create a trustworthy organisation of people committed to building business value in a sustainable way. This means continuous improvement in three areas. These are:
Equality and inclusive organisational culture
Ensuring equal opportunities and managing diversity in the workplace translates into a sense of belonging, operational efficiency, innovation and attracts talent.
We treat diversity as a fact of life and our daily decisions are guided by an approach of equal treatment, which is based on an objective, fair and unbiased assessment. We create an environment where each person has equal opportunities, feels safe, is respected and valued for the quality and value of their work. We value the individuality of the people we work with and we consider their competence, motivation to develop and the experience they bring to our organisation to be essential. We are committed to ensuring that every person, no matter who they are, can reach their full potential and feel that our organisation is the right place for them. We know that an equal and inclusive approach to diversity allows people and our business to grow.
Responsible management
Companies that implement mature management practices reduce risks and perform better in the long term.
We believe that accountability requires providing the proper ecosystem to ensure that we can achieve our vision and mission. The one we are creating at Żabka is based on people – employees, business and franchise partners. We are committed to creating a trustworthy organisation that engages people in building the value of our company in a sustainable way.
Transparency and credibility
Openness and transparency of activities, especially in the area of reporting, is key to an organisation’s business success.
In order to meet the expectations of different stakeholder groups, we are continuously improving our processes to provide them with access to relevant information, including non-financial data. This is a key element in building reputation, credibility and trust among key stakeholders.
We want all employee and associate groups to know that our organisation is a dream place for each and every one of them and that their individuality is valued.
Look how great it is!
We are a unique place to work that suits unique people. Working at Żabka Group is worth it, because it’s more than just a ‘normal job’. It’s just great here.
Praising Days
At Żabka, we not only celebrate goals and achievements, but we know how important it is to appreciate collective efforts, commitment and work in their pursuit. We believe that praise increases self-confidence and encourages further efforts.
Chwaling Days are special days during which we creatively and humorously share a good word, thank each other for our daily work and support. “Thank you” cards can be sent by everyone to everyone, regardless of location, department or team. It’s our big Celebration of Praise! Every year we send out more and more cards and break new records, because it’s always worth PRAISING IT ALL!
Engagement according to Gallup
At Żabka, we take on challenges and pursue bold goals. Today, we have over 8,600 franchisees working with us and over 2,000 employees at our headquarters in Poznań and logistics centers. Directly and indirectly, we have created over 63,000 jobs at Żabka Group.
Growth on such a scale is not possible without committed teams and leaders. We are open to diversity and different points of view. Everyone’s opinion is extremely important to us, which is why approx. 90 % of employees and associates take part in our annual Gallup poll. We also check to see if our employees see the effects of the actions taken based on the results of these surveys. Our level of involvement is increasing and is a proof of real changes, thanks to which we create Żabka, in which everyone feels good and can develop their potential.
Doing Good
At Żabka, responsibility is one of our values that pervades all areas of our operations. We carry out many initiatives that prove that at Żabka we take responsibility for ourselves, for others and for the planet.
One of the latest examples of our responsible actions is the creation of the largest bee apiary in the center of Poznań on the roof of our office building! Placing beehives on the roofs of buildings in city centers is not just about keeping bees safe. Thanks to the hives we take care of the sustainable development of the cities, we also improve the quality of living of their residents.
Every year we also get involved in charity activities. For example, we support the annual collection of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP), enabling users of our Żappka application to exchange “Żapps” for “bricks” of specified amounts.
During the pandemic, we are taking special care of our employees, customers and franchisees. All the time, our employees can take advantage of free tests; our offices, warehouses and shops are equipped with all protective measures; we have organised vaccination; and we use the knowledge of experts when making further decisions to ensure the safety of our employees.
Żabka Sports Team
At Żabka, we often say that business is a team sport. Our shared sporting activities allow us to develop specific qualities and skills, such as cooperation or striving to achieve a goal. It is also an excellent opportunity for integration, building a good atmosphere. Sporting rivalry helps to unite the team and also influences the sense of corporate belonging.
The Żabka Sports Team is a group of active people from our company who like sports, often train together and represent Żabka at numerous sports events. The team comprises several hundred people interested in various sports disciplines, such as running, triathlon and cycling. Most of the team’s participation in competitions takes place during the cross-country season from March to October, but our athletes train all year round – we run, cycle, swim, train basketball and football at athletic facilities.
Girl Power
At Żabka, we strive to ensure that everyone regardless of gender, age and background feels good. The themes of equality, diversity and inclusiveness are elements that strongly influence our organisational culture. One of their manifestations is language. Equality language simply needs to be talked about, making people aware of the need to name others appropriately, not to overlook them and not to name them disrespectfully. Language is an important tool for conveying our thoughts and our perception of the world, so if we do not name certain things or do so in an exclusionary way, we perpetuate certain stereotypes and prejudices.
We use female job names on an equal footing with male ones. Our company has female board members, female directors, female managers and female specialists, among others. The use of gender-sensitive or neutral language is a common concern for all of us. However, it is important to note that there is no compulsion to use feminine forms in our organisation. We leave it up to those concerned to decide for themselves.
The March “Women’s Day”, as part of which we organise a number of interesting initiatives (webinars, competitions) every year, is a great opportunity to integrate all employees and meet exceptionally inspiring women at Żabka. See for yourself which Super Women work in our organisation.
Fun at work
Is fun at work possible? At Żabka everything is possible! Even a company meeting during which we review our annual goals and successes we can use as an opportunity for integration, explosion of creativity, discovery of new talents and, above all, smiles and joy. Every year each of our Teams, together with a professional visual agency, prepares a video in which they share their achievements. Every year we are surprised with better ideas, productions and acting performances, and what we all always look forward to is our Board’s video ?
From A to Ż
At Żabka, everyone has a chance to use their strengths and skills. At the same time, every day is an adventure for us in developing our potential, discovering our talents and gathering new experience. We have the opportunity to participate in innovative projects that are used by millions of customers every day.
Working at Żabka, you will never fall into a routine because the projects we carry out are diverse and touch on many interesting areas. For example, it could be an analytical project using artificial intelligence to optimize the location of new Żabka stores. It could also be a project encouraging and promoting environmentally friendly behaviors by introducing extra discounts for people who return glass bottles and developing plastic bottle return deposits. It’s also the creation of a new diet available at Maczfit dietary catering. Or designing a shopping experience in autonomous Żabka Nano stores…or maybe designing dark stores that support the Żabka Jush q-commerce service?
There are many projects, the list of our initiatives and programs is much longer and our solutions simplify the lives of people in Andrychów and Żagań.
Anywhere Anytime
The pandemic has changed a lot in our surroundings, but it has not changed our desire to build an efficient working model. Before the pandemic, we preferred to work in the office, mainly because of the ability to share information quickly and the high degree of collaboration between teams. After many months of working remotely, we found our rhythm, but also saw more and more value in meeting and collaborating “live”. We invited our employees to take part in a “Remote Team Scan” survey, based on which we established our hybrid working model.
Together with our employees, we defined the principles that combine working in the office and at home. Our solution is flexible, efficient and employee-friendly. Flexible not only in terms of location, but also in terms of working hours. This is an important change for us, opening up new opportunities for development, changing the current office organisation, attracting new talented employees from further afield and increasing the diversity of the team.
Covid Case Study
From the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Żabka Polska has made every effort to ensure maximum safety for all employees, co-workers, franchisees and customers of the chain. In order to make protective measures effective and efficient, a crisis team was set up to implement the necessary solutions in a comprehensive manner. It consists of external experts and representatives of various company departments, who implement a number of initiatives to protect the health of our employees. These include: home office working for all employees whose duties allow them to do so, implementation of free antigen screening tests for employees and co-workers, as well as access to such tests for their families.
In all our locations we have taken safety measures such as temperature measurement before entering our premises, regular disinfection and ozone treatment of rooms and spaces; our meeting rooms have been equipped with sanitizers, safety procedures and BCP plans have been implemented. In addition, personal protective equipment (disinfectants, protective masks, disinfectant fluids) is available to everyone.
We conducted dozens of periodic COVID-19 vaccination campaigns for employees, associates, franchisees and their relatives. As an additional preventive measure, we also provided access to such equipment as pulse oximeters or oxygen concentrators, as well as flu vaccinations as part of the medical package. In addition, we organised a number of educational webinars on COVID-19, dedicated meetings for our suppliers, and, in the summer, we launched a special cash lottery for those who were vaccinated.
The pandemic is an extremely difficult time, so we have undertaken a number of charitable activities such as donating protective masks to hospitals.
The results of these activities include more than 200,000 antigen tests and PCRs performed (data for 2021) and vaccination rates ranging from 60 to 90% (depending on location).
Future leaders
Żabka Polska as a strong and seasoned organisation has identified four company values which drive its activities. One of those values is ambition.
We strive to become stronger and smarter every day. However, we define ambition as a means to nurture the development of specialists and leaders and to encourage personal growth of our employees and partners.
We aspire to create the best possible growth conditions on the market and to retain professionals on every rung of their career ladders.
Our first step towards achieving this ambition was to establish Żabka Academy in 2016, which was awarded ‘Pracodawca godny zaufania’, an award given employers in recognition of their reliability, in the category of education. But that was just the beginning. We are committed to developing the Academy as a modern institution which continues to expand our employees’ future work skills and which purposefully manages mentoring programmes, internships as well as upskilling and reskilling programmes. Where possible, we offer in-house training, although if circumstances warrant cooperation, we are happy to collaborate with the top training organisations both in Poland and abroad.
For example, we joined forces with Egon Zehnder, a world-class management consulting company. Each year we cooperatively launch the following editions of our senior leader development programme. The programme, aimed at our most experienced leaders, involves carefully constructed diagnostic tools, which help to create individual development programmes. Our most talented employees get a chance to increase their competencies at top training programmes offered by Harvard University, ISEAD, Stanford University, Yale University and other….
Senior leader development programme represents but a fraction of our efforts to continuously help Żabka leaders in their professional growth. The initiatives start much earlier, when our employees transit from specialist to their managerial positions (e.g. basic management programmes ‘Wczoraj kolega, dziś przełożony’). The Academy, then, continues to guide them through the next stages of managerial skills development and career advancement in Żabka. As a result nearly half of Żabka managers have been promoted internally, having completed the manager initiation pathway step by step. Accordingly, employee engagement surveys by Gallup show that our leaders value the educational opportunities as offered by Żabka highly.
Moreover, activities of the Żabka Academy are not limited to enhancing management qualifications alone. For instance, the Academy coordinates onboarding meetings, which promote in-company familiarity and effective teamwork among junior employees. Also, an attractive system of student internships (the Polish Business Roundtable ranks us second among such career programmes) helps us to entice young high-class specialists and share the responsibility for developing a generation of young employees who have just entered the labour market.
In Żabka, we think global, we act local. For that reason English language learning programmes are an important part of the Academy’s curriculum, as speaking a foreign language is becoming a more and more essential skill, which will surely prove useful in the course of ambitious international projects Żabka co-creates.
Development constitutes and drives our great ambitions, consequently we consider it a priority and an intrinsic part of our company. A community development initiative #GROW, which brings together all those interested in personal development of self and Żabka co-workers, testifies to that clearly.
As an organisation we welcome people who live and breathe changes, development and ambition. We can safely promise you, you will have it aplenty!
